Gas Turbine Courses Slated for the Spring

ASME has scheduled four short courses — over the next two months — designed for engineers and other technical professionals in the gas turbine field. One of the seminars will be held in Pennsylvania, with the other three taking place at ASME's Turbo Expo 2008 in Berlin, Germany.

The courses provide instruction and hands-on training for professionals seeking to broaden their knowledge and proficiency in different aspects of gas turbine engines, including maintenance and repair. The short course program is supported by the ASME International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI).

The first of the four courses, "Hands-on Thermodynamics of Power and Aero Engines," will be held May 28–30, at Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center in State College, Pa. The three-day training program will cover materials, flow characteristics, and other topics. The course will also provide hands-on instruction on the SR-30 thrust demonstrator.

Three short courses will be held immediately prior to ASME Turbo Expo 2008 at the Estrel Hotel and Convention Center in Berlin. "Gas Turbine Aero-thermodynamics and Performance Modeling" will be held June 7–8 and cover a comprehensive range of subjects, from fluid flow and energy transfer to turbofan performance and systems design.

A course on "Gas Turbine Repair and Metallurgy," is scheduled for June 8. This course is targeted toward technical professionals on the operations and maintenance side of the gas turbine business. The popular IGTI course will highlight component evaluation, engine coatings, characteristics of degradation, and quality assurance.

The third short course at Turbo Expo, "Basic Gas Turbine Engine Technology Review and Exam," will include review materials and a four-hour examination testing each participant's grasp of basic concepts. That course will also be held on June 8.
