The 2008 ASME Annual Meeting will be held June 711, at Walt Disney
World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The meeting's
program consists of plenary sessions, workshops, professional development
sessions, and a Career Expo.
Based on the theme "Innovative Partnering: Interdisciplinary Challenges
to Designing the Future," the meeting will enable engineers to
learn about and explore emerging business challenges in the profession
and how to cope with these challenges through skills enhancement. Topics
to be covered will include key trends and management challenges; collaborations
and partnerships; managing virtual teams; negotiation and consensus
building; project management, and other keys to success in tomorrow's
engineering workplace.
The plenary sessions are titled "Envisioning the Future,"
"Critical Skills Needed to Overcome 21st-Century Challenges,"
and "Partnering: Interdisciplinary Approaches Are the Keys to Success."
Each plenary session will run for 90 minutes and will feature expert
commentary from CEO and vice president-level corporate decision-makers,
academic scholars, and business consultants. Michael Rogers, futurist-in-residence
at The New York Times Company, will chair and moderate the plenary sessions.
Rogers is one of the nation's leading authorities on the impact of technology
on business.
Workshops will explore the subjects treated in the plenary sessions,
although in greater depth. The 90-minute workshops will provide a forum
for questions and answers between speakers and attendees.
The professional development program at the meeting will focus on building
career skills that are critical to success in the evolving marketplace.
It will also cover two of ASME's most popular technical codes and standards,
the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning
and Tolerancing Standard.
The 2008 ASME Annual Meeting also will include meetings of the Society's
Board of Governors and volunteer committees and a social program. For
