Texas A&M University to host an ASME Essential Teaching Seminar in February (12/15/06)

The next ASME Essential Teaching Seminar will take place from Feb. 1-3, 2007, at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

The seminar, which is open to faculty of all technical disciplines, is intended to help educators hone their teaching skills in a collegial, peer-critique environment, and learn from the latest best practices in teaching and learning.

The program will feature a mixture of lecture-style instruction and interactive group work. The lecture portion of the seminar provides participants with a variety of practical skills for use in the classroom, while the group work gives participants an opportunity to apply those skills to their teaching with the support of their teammates.

The seminars are appropriate for new faculty, experienced faculty interested in strengthening their teaching and lecturing skills, as well as graduate students preparing for a career in academia. Each seminar is limited to 30 participants.

Registration for members of ASME and cooperating societies is $225 before Dec. 15, $275 afterwards. Nonmember registration is $325 before Dec. 15, $375 after that date.
