Thomas M. Barlow, formerly of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, became president-elect of ASME at the 2007 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, which was held from Nov. 9–15 in Seattle.

Thomas M. Barlow

Barlow will become the 127th president of ASME when he begins his one-year term in June 2008. He was selected as president-nominee of the Society last June at the Summer Annual Meeting in Toronto.

A member of ASME for the past 50 years, Barlow has served on many technical, regional and Society-wide committees and boards, and has demonstrated a strong record of support and leadership in student outreach, membership development, technology and engineering diversity. He is a Fellow of ASME and a former member of the ASME Board of Governors, serving from 2003 to 2006.

During his time at ASME, Barlow has served within the local, regional and technical division structures, including participation on the Council on Engineering, the Public Information Operating Board, the Board of Governors' Committee on Organization and Rules, and the Editorial Advisory Board of Mechanical Engineering magazine. Barlow has served as a judge in student paper competitions and played a key role in developing ASME's university-level Human-Powered Vehicle Challenge. He is also a member of the ASME Auxiliary.

PLM "Think Tank" Video Now Available on ASME Web Site

A new ASME Think Tank Summit video —"Fruits and Pitfalls of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)" — has been posted on ASME.ORG.

This is the second in a series of three videos that were recorded at the Think Tank Summit, which took place in June. The two-day Think Tank Summit, held during the ASME Summer Annual Meeting in Toronto, was composed of three 90-minute town hall-style discussions.

A third video, "Human Factor Engineering," will be available on the Web site in December. The video presentations are free of charge, but you will be asked to register.

Gas Turbine Users Symposium Powers Up in New Orleans Next Month

ASME's International Gas Turbine Institute will hold its Gas Turbine Users Symposium (GTUS) next month in conjunction with Power-Gen International. The symposium will take place from Dec. 11–13 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

Developed by gas turbine users for gas turbine users, GTUS provides an objective forum in which to network and exchange the latest in technology and best practices. Leaders across the spectrum of gas turbine applications and field expertise have teamed up to organize panels, tutorials and roundtables — session formats that offer the greatest benefit and exchange of technology and best practices. The event will focus on user concerns and issues in the areas of equipment and products, engine management, and maintenance and repair.

Registration for the Gas Turbine Users Symposium, now in its fourth year at Power-Gen, will also provide you with free access to the Power-Gen show floor and complimentary daily lunches. For prices and to register, visit www.asmeconferences.org/GTUS07/ConfRegistration.cfm.

For more information, contact Judy Osborn at IGTI, (404) 419-1643, e-mail osbornj@asme.org, or visit www.asmeconferences.org/gtus07.
