The Role of Measurements and Standards in the Advancement of Engineered Materials to be Addressed Next Week at the RD&D Expo (11/13/03)

Today organizations want engineered materials with higher performance at lower cost, and new materials must be inserted into product development cycles that are getting shorter and shorter. That is why Leslie Smith, director of the Materials, Science & Engineering Lab at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is addressing the role of measurements and standards for the advancement of engineered materials at the upcoming Research Development & Design Expo (RD&D).

The RD&D takes place next week, Nov. 17-20, 2003, at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C. Smith's session, "Faster, Cheaper, Better: The Role of Measurements and Standards in the Advancement of Engineered Materials," will be given on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.

Smith's presentation will teach attendees about how NIST Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory is improving the development and application of new materials through new discovery methods, modeling, testing and measurement, as well as how enterprises can work with them.

The RD&D Expo, which is co-located with the Defense Research & Engineering Conference and Expo (DREX), will provide a forum for R&D, OEM product design, system design professionals and defense department leaders to collaborate on and analyze the relationship between discovery and enterprise. With a stellar lineup of speakers and exhibitors, these events will provided businesses and the government with the tools to efficiently and effectively accelerate product development as a means to harvest an increased return on investment.
