
Harry Armen Becomes 123rd ASME President; Inaugural Address Now Online

Harry Armen, P.E., became the 123rd
president of ASME this week at the Society's Summer Annual Meeting,
which was held in La Jolla, Calif. He will serve as ASME president until
June 2005.

An ASME Fellow, Armen has served the Society in a number of leadership
positions during his 22-year affiliation.
Armen joined the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1982, becoming
active in the ASME Applied Mechanics Division. He served as chair of
the Committee on Computing in Applied Mechanics and received the Applied
Mechanics Division Award in 1995.
As an ASME Congressional Fellow, Armen worked in the office of Jeff
Bingaman, former senator in New Mexico, and assisted on the multi-agency
Technology Reinvestment Project of 1993.
Armen is currently the director of technology development at Northrop
Grumman Corp., the large U.S. defense contractor located in Bethpage,
N.Y.
