Nano/MEMS, Control Systems and Design Tools Among Topics Discussed During
ASME's RD&D Conference and Expo
Speakers for the Nanotechnology session
on Nov. 18, during ASME's Research, Development and Design Conference
and Exposition (RD&D Expo) in Washington, D.C., were recently confirmed.
Meyya Meyyappan, director of the Center for Nanotechnology at NASA Ames
Research Center, and R. Stanley Williams, director of Quantum Science
Research at the Hewlett-Packard Labs, will make presentations and lead
a discussion on the topic.
Meyyappan has been at NASA for the past six years as the director of
the Nano Center. The Nano Center consists of a large group of scientists
working on various aspects of nanotechnology.
Meyyappan has a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University.
Prior to joining NASA, he was with Scientific Research Associates in
Glastonbury, Conn. holding various positions such as senior scientist
and director of the processing group.
Williams has a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry from the University of California
Berkeley. He Joined Hewlett-Packard Labs in 1995 to found Quantum Science
Research. His research interests at QSR are in the thermodynamics of
the size and shape of nanometer-scale materials, molecular electronics,
and the physics of information.
The show floor at the RD&D Conference and Expo, which will be open
Nov. 17-20 in Washington, D.C., will feature four other focus areas:
Control Systems, Design Tools, Engineered Materials and OEM Design Components.
Separate pavilions targeting all five areas will be set up on the exhibit
floor, giving attendees the chance to view products addressing those
specific venues.
The Nano/MEMS Pavilion will spotlight the latest products and solutions
in areas such as lasers, MEMS, and Nanotechnology. The main product
display categories will include bionics, biochemical analysis technology,
diagnostics, microtools and smart materials.
The crossover between microsystems and other major industrial sectors,
such as manufacturing and materials handling, will also be highlighted
at the pavilion.
The RD&D Conference and Exposition will be co-located with two other
major ASME conferences: the International Mechanical Engineering Congress
and Exposition, and the Defense Research and Engineering Conference
and Exposition.
The events for all three conferences will take place Nov. 16-21 at the
Marriott Wardman Park and Omni in Washington, D.C.
