
Riders Race Toward Finish in West Coast HPV Challenge

California Polytechnic State University,
San Luis Obispo, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and LeTourneau University
in Longview, Texas each earned top honors in the final results of the
2004 ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge-West Coast, which took place
April 23-25 at Oregon State University.

Luis Obispo (above) sped to a first-place victory in the single-rider
category at the ASME Human Powered Vehicle 2004 West Coast Competition,
which was held in late April at Oregon State University. Team No.
8 (below), from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, placed first
in the event's tandem-vehicle category. |

First place in the Single Rider category went to California Polytechnic
SLO, while first place in the Tandem category was awarded to the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas. LeTourneau University placed first in the Utility
Vehicle event.

Buffalo was one of 17 single-rider vehicles taking part in the event.
The team placed 16th. |

ASME Names Finalists for Mechanical Engineering
Award in Offshore Technology (4/28/04)
ASME has selected nine finalists for
the 21st Annual Woelfel Best Mechanical Engineering Achievement Award.
The award recognizes a product or system that demonstrates a practical
solution to an engineering challenge in offshore technology.

Judging for the 2004 Woelfel Best Mechanical Engineering Achievement
Award will take place at the Offshore Technology Conference, May 3-6.
The annual conference will bring together engineers, scientists, and
other professionals to discuss and demonstrate new ideas in drilling
technology, pipelines, energy production, and related areas.
