Bennett served as chair of the ASME Auxiliary's Rice-Cullimore Scholarship Committee after his wife Irma, the group's former chair, died in 1998. Irma, who had served as president and chair of the committee, had also been an active member of the ASME Auxiliary.

Bob Bennett was also a founding member of the ASME Foundation's Archimedes Club, a group that recognizes Society members who have made legacy gifts to the ASME Foundation. "The bequest is my way of thanking ASME for all the pleasures that I have had while being a member for over 55 years," Bennett said at the time of his gift in 2004.

In addition, Bennett was a trustee for the Staff Pension Plan Committee. He also served as ASME secretary and treasurer for 17 years, as well as vice president of ASME's Hudson Region. Bennett was an ASME representative to the Hoover Medal Board of Award and a recipient of the ASME Dedicated Service Award.

Bennett, who grew up in Forest Hills, N.Y., joined ASME in 1947, after graduating from Cornell University. He went to work for the Long Island Lighting Co. in 1948.

Turbo Expo 2008 Features More than 100 Exhibitors

The exhibition at ASME Turbo Expo 2008 in Berlin will include more than 100 manufacturers, service suppliers, and research organizations from around the world. The conference is intended to bring together the global technology community for five days of information exchange on gas turbines.

To date, 114 organizations have reserved space in the exposition, which will be held in conjunction with a technical program and other activities comprising the Turbo Expo 2008 — Gas Turbine Technical Congress and Exposition set for June 9–13, at the Estrel Berlin Hotel and Convention Center.

ASME's International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) sponsors the annual Turbo Expo as a discussion forum for engineers, research scientists, academics, regulatory officials, and business executives. IGTI is dedicated to supporting the international exchange and development of information to improve the design, application, manufacture, operation and maintenance, and environmental impact of all types of gas turbines, turbomachinery, and related equipment.

More than half of the exhibitors at Turbo Expo 2008 will represent firms in the Canadian and European markets, including 15 companies based in Germany. Currently, 44 organizations from the U.S. market will participate in the exposition, which showcases the products and services of engine manufacturers, software developers, and other organizations involved in research and experimentation for gas turbines.

Exhibitors at ASME Turbo Expo 2008 will include the engine manufacturers Pratt & Whitney, GE, and Rolls-Royce. Other exhibitors will include the software developers CD-adapco and Ansys, along with publishers, research organizations, and makers of diagnostics and control equipment.
