ASME to Sponsor Engineering R&D Symposium Next Month in Washington (3/22/05)

ASME, in collaboration with 14 other engineering organizations, is sponsoring the third annual Engineering Research and Development Symposium April 5–6, in Washington, D.C.

Seats are still available for the Capitol Hill event, which will attract approximately 200 engineers from the co-sponsoring societies. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis and a registration form must be filled out to attend. Additional information about the meeting and the form are available online at www.engineeringpolicy.org/

, or by emailing Leslie Tate at tatel@asme.org.

Attendees will participate in an intensive, two-day meeting to gain firsthand knowledge of the U.S. government's R&D priorities, and the potential impact the president's fiscal year 2006 budget request will have on the engineering, science, and technology community.

The keynote session will include remarks from Presidential Science Advisor John Marburger and New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman, who is the ranking Democratic member of the senate committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Other high-level government representatives will participate in panel sessions on the U.S. Engineering Enterprise, R&D Innovation and Economic Competitiveness, and Trends Altering the Course of Engineering Research.

A Congressional reception will be held the evening of April 5 with members of Congress and their staffs. Federal agency representatives will provide overviews of their budget requests during concurrent sessions on April 6.
