ASME opens ASME Asia Pacific LLC in China

ASME has established a limited liability
company named ASME Asia Pacific LLC, which will enable the Society
to further its global outreach in codes and standards, conformity
assessment, continuing education, and other programs.
The Director-General of the State Administration for Industry and
Commerce of the Peoples Republic of China approved ASME Asia
Pacific LLCs application for registration, allowing the new
limited liability company to establish a representative office in
Beijing. The office will form the base of operations to advance
the Societys growth in an area that the organization considers
a key market for engineering services.
In addition to promoting understanding and use of codes and standards
programs in the growing markets of the Asia Pacific, the new limited
liability company will be engaged in expanding the reach of the
Societys engineering workforce short courses and training
seminars throughout the region. It will also provide a means of
strengthening collaboration with existing and new partner organizations
in the region.
ASME Asia Pacific will provide the Society an on-the-ground
presence in growth markets, said Virgil R. Carter, executive
director of ASME. Our network of technical experts and contacts
there will be identifying the needs of local industry and government
and coordinating ASMEs delivery of quality products and services
that are relevant to the marketplace.
ASME Asia Pacific LLC also will be actively engaged in facilitating
new member recruitment and conference development. ASME Asia Pacific,
LLC will provide a vehicle to assist ASME in meeting strategic objectives
in growth-oriented international markets and expanding its services
as a technical resource to industries and governments throughout
the World.
Reminder: ASME/AIChE sustainable engineering
virtual seminars begin March 15
If you would like to register for
the five virtual seminars ASME and the American Institute of are
offering five virtual seminars on the subject of sustainable engineering,
the time to act is now. The first seminar in the program
"Shaping Your Sustainability Strategy and Moving to Action"
takes place on March 15.
The five ASME-AIChE programs will present case studies on the successful
application of sustainable engineering practices at leading global
firms, including Wal-Mart and Bristol-Meyers Squibb.
"Shaping Your Sustainability Strategy and Moving to Action"
will feature presentations and commentary from Richard E. Feigel,
past president of ASME and Calvin Cobb, chair of the AIChE Institute
for Sustainability.
That virtual symposium will be followed by "Tools for Measuring
Sustainability Performance" on March 22, "Sustainability
Tools: Applying Life-Cycle Assessment" on March 29, "The
Business Case for a Sustainable Enterprise" on April 5, and
"Designing to Meet Sustainability Objectives" on April
12.

The ASME E-Library Challenge, which
lets you to test your knowledge of ASME's E-Library and enter a
prize drawing, will end March 19.
The quiz is comprised of three to five questions that you can answer

There are different versions for members and student members. The
