A Second ASME Member Named to Homeland Security Committee (3/10/04)

ASME Fellow Richard T. Roca, P.E., has been named to the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee (HSSTAC) of the Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate. (Late-Breaking News reported last week that ASME President Reginald I. Vachon had been appointed to HSSTAC.)

Roca has been the director of the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) since January 2000. He had previously spent his entire professional career with the AT&T Corp. in which he designed communications networks and equipment.

The advisory committe was established to serve as a source of independent, scientific and technical planning advice to the Under Secretary for Science and Technology as mandated by the Homeland Security Act of 2002.

More information about HSSTAC, including the full list of members, can be found at: www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/display?theme=53.
