Justin Klein Named First ASME-Virginia Tech Scholarship Recipient

ASME immediate Past-President Sam Y. Zamrik and ASME Auxiliary Past-President Myrna R. Zamrik visited the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg on Sept. 5, to present the first ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship. The Auxiliary scholarship, in the amount of $5,000, was presented to engineering student Justin Klein, who will continue his graduate studies in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech.

The scholarship, managed by the ASME Foundation, marked the realization of a campaign to grow the ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, which was established shortly after the tragic shootings that took 32 lives on the Virginia Tech campus on April 16, 2007.

Thanks to the generous outpouring of donations from ASME members and staff, divisions, students, and many other supporters, the ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship will grow to ensure that Virginia Tech engineering graduate students, like Justin, can pursue their education and dreams. Special thanks are due to Mrs. Zamrik, who presented a check to Justin, and to Dr. Zamrik, who presented an ASME certificate to him. Special thanks to the ASME Auxiliary for contributing funding for the first scholarship.
