Honors Assembly at the Congress
The annual Honors Assembly — an
impressive and one-of-a-kind audiovisual experience — will take
place on Nov. 3 at the ASME Congress in Boston.
Honorees this year will include Prof. Frank E. Talke of the University
of California, San Diego, who will receive the ASME Medal, and former
ASME President Nancy D. Fitzroy, who will be named an Honorary Member
of ASME. Robert A. Bennett, a longtime member of ASME who died in March,
will be honored posthumously as an Honorary Member at the ceremony.
In addition, the Melvin R. Green Codes & Standards Medal will be
given to Kenneth R. Balkey; the Thomas A. Edison Patent Award will be
bestowed upon Kyriacos A. Athanasiou; the Soichiro Honda Medal will
be awarded to Robin Stuart Sharp; the Holley Medal will be given to
David G. Lilley; the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Medal of ASME/SME
will be accepted by James Bryan; the Ralph Coats Roe Medal will be awarded
to Shirley Ann Jackson; the Dixy Lee Ray Award will go to Peter Maggiore;
and the Timoshenko Medal will be presented to Sia Nemat-Nasser.
A reception will follow the Honors Assembly Awards show, during which
you will have the opportunity to socialize with the award recipients
and other attendees. This part of the evening provides members with
the opportunity to talk to those colleagues — old friends and
new — you have missed during the hectic first days of the meeting.
The Honors Assembly is free and all attendees are invited to attend.
The Honors Reception is a cash bar event. For those of you wishing to
join the honorees at the Honors Dinner, tickets can be purchased in
the registration area of the hotel.
On behalf of ASME, I hope you will join us for this special evening.

ASME Committee on Honors
