Congressional Leaders Join Honored Recipients
of the ASME President's Award
ASME President Sam Y. Zamrik and ASME
immediate Past President Terry E. Shoup recently honored members of
the U.S. Congress for their contributions to engineering by presenting
them with the prestigious ASME President's Award.

On April 3, Reps. Judy Biggert, R-Ill., and Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas,
were presented with the ASME President's Award by Zamrik during a brief
ceremony held at their respective offices in Washington, D.C. On April
18, Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., received the President's Award from Shoup.
Rep. Biggert, who serves as co-chair of the Congressional Research and
Development Caucus, was recognized by ASME "for her leadership
in advancing the science, engineering and technology enterprise which
is so vital to this nation," said Zamrik.

Rep. Reyes, who is co-founder and co-chairman of the Congressional
Diversity and Innovation Caucus, was recognized for his outstanding
contributions in promoting diversity in the science, technology, engineering,
and math (STEM) fields. "I am deeply honored to receive this award
from ASME diversity in the STEM fields is vital to our national
security and global competitiveness," Reyes said in a press statement
issued by his office.

For his leadership in calling on a renewed national commitment to science,
engineering, and math education programs, Rep. Holt, who also serves
as co-chair of the Congressional R&D Caucus, received the ASME President's
Award from Shoup, who visited the congressman's office in Washington.
Established in 1998, the ASME President's Award provides an opportunity
for the office of the president of ASME to present special recognition
to industry, or to prominent individuals who have demonstrated significant
contributions to the engineering profession.
A distinguished list of past ASME President's Award recipients include
Sheila E. Widnall, Daniel S. Goldin, Dean Kamen, Shirley Ann Jackson,
Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, the National Institute of Standards and Technology,
the Westinghouse Electric Co., and others.
