On April 3, Reps. Judy Biggert, R-Ill., and Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, were presented with the ASME President's Award by Zamrik during a brief ceremony held at their respective offices in Washington, D.C. On April 18, Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., received the President's Award from Shoup.

Rep. Biggert, who serves as co-chair of the Congressional Research and Development Caucus, was recognized by ASME "for her leadership in advancing the science, engineering and technology enterprise which is so vital to this nation," said Zamrik.

Rep. Reyes, who is co-founder and co-chairman of the Congressional Diversity and Innovation Caucus, was recognized for his outstanding contributions in promoting diversity in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. "I am deeply honored to receive this award from ASME — diversity in the STEM fields is vital to our national security and global competitiveness," Reyes said in a press statement issued by his office.

For his leadership in calling on a renewed national commitment to science, engineering, and math education programs, Rep. Holt, who also serves as co-chair of the Congressional R&D Caucus, received the ASME President's Award from Shoup, who visited the congressman's office in Washington.

Established in 1998, the ASME President's Award provides an opportunity for the office of the president of ASME to present special recognition to industry, or to prominent individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions to the engineering profession.

A distinguished list of past ASME President's Award recipients include Sheila E. Widnall, Daniel S. Goldin, Dean Kamen, Shirley Ann Jackson, Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Westinghouse Electric Co., and others.
