+ ASME Auxilary Column, August 2010
The ASME Auxiliary was able to fund 16 scholarships this year, totaling $46,000 — twice the amount that we had been able to award in 2009.

These included six undergraduate scholarships, two master’s degree scholarships, three scholarships for doctoral students, and one Rice-Cullimore Scholarship for a non-U.S. student attending a U.S. university. Students accepting these scholarships each received $2,000. The winner of the Rice-Cullimore Scholarship is Berkem Mehmet, a Fulbright master’s degree student from Turkey. [Read more]

+ Spotlight On: Abele to Receive ASME Medal at Honors Assembly
The ASME Medal, the Society's highest award, will be presented to John E. Abele. Established in 1920, the ASME Medal is presented for eminently distinguished engineering achievement. Abele is the founding chairman of Boston Scientific Corp., and is a pioneer and leader in the field of less-invasive medicine. For more than five decades, he has devoted himself to innovative healthcare and business, and has been involved in advancing the science, engineering and technology skills of high school students as chair of the FIRST Foundation.

John Abele will be among the 10 individuals recognized at the annual ASME Honors Assembly ceremony, "A Celebration of Engineering," to be held on Nov. 15 at the ASME International Congress and Exposition in Vancouver, British Columbia. [Read more]

+ Spotlight On: Honors Assembly at Congress
Each year, ASME recognizes engineers whose work and contributions have advanced the profession through its Honors and Awards Program. This year, the Society has selected 66 awards recipients, including 10 individuals who will be recognized at the annual ASME Honors and Awards Ceremony to be held on Nov. 15 at the ASME International Congress and Exposition in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Among the distinguished honorees at this year’s event, "A Celebration of Engineering," will be Charles M. Vest , Ph.D., president of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and president emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Vest will be the 2010 recipient of the Ralph Coates Roe Medal for his distinguished technology management achievements, and for his service to the Society and the community. [Read more]
