Are YOU the New Face of Mechanical Engineering?

If you're an ASME member who is 30 years old or younger and would like to help encourage young people to pursue careers in engineering, you could well be the Society's representative for the next New Faces of Engineering program — and get your picture in USA Today during Engineers Week 2008.

Nominations are now being accepted for the New Faces of Engineering Program, which is intended to promote the up-and-coming innovators in the engineering profession. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 19.

The New Faces initiative aims to promote the accomplishments of early career engineers by highlighting their engineering contributions and the resulting impact on society. The top individual New Faces will be featured in a full-page ad in USA Today during Engineers Week, Feb. 17–23, 2008. Each photo will be captioned with the engineer's name, name of the engineering society providing the nominee, employer, and a brief statement of that individual's accomplishments as they relate to the public welfare.

Nominees for the New Faces program must be 30 years of age or younger as of Dec. 1, 2007, and have a degree in engineering from a recognized U.S. university or an equivalent international educational institution. Degrees in engineering technology, science, computer science, and similar disciplines do not qualify. A degree in computer engineering is acceptable.

To nominate another ASME member as the Society's 2008 New Face of Engineering — or to nominate yourself — contact Marina Stenos, ASME Public Awareness, by e-mail at stenosm@asme.org for a nomination form. Nominations must be returned by e-mail to Stenos by Nov. 19.
