ASME presents new Water Conference

ASME's new Water Quality, Drought, Human Health and Engineering Conference, debuting next month in Las Vegas, will be a unique forum for addressing water issues, advances in remediation technology, and policies regarding regulation and legislation.

The ASME Nanotechnology Institute, ASME's Environmental Engineering Division, and the Center of Advanced Materials for the Purification of Water with Systems are sponsoring the meeting, which will be held Oct. 18–20 at the Desert Research Institute. The event is supported by the Atomic Testing Museum and the Desert Research Institute.

The new conference is designed to provide a solutions-based forum for engineers to exchange information concerning activities and plans for improving the quantity and quality of water, the impact on human health and engineering, and current policies from state and federal agencies.

Conference participants will include scientists and engineers, managers, legislators, and policy makers responsible for issues dealing with water. The meeting is intended to highlight the concerns and impending problems that are developing with regard to the availability and quality of water, and the consequences to human health throughout the United States and internationally.

The meeting's program will be composed of a number of keynote presentations by invited experts, followed by panel discussions meant to develop possible scenarios for solutions to many of these major water issues.

These participants will include Daniel Beard of Booz Allen Hamilton Inc.; Shannon Cunniff of the U.S. Department of Defense; Michelle Frey of the environmental resource management company PureSense; Kathryn Knowles from Sandia National Laboratories; John Lyon of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Darrell Pepper from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Philip Rolchigo from GE Global Research; John Voeller of the National Science and Technology Council; Erik Webb from the office of Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.); and David Weiman of Agricultural Resources.

Registration for the Water Conference is $500 for the general audience and $300 for students. One-day registration is $325.
