ASME offers Engineering Management Certification
courses live, online
Next month, ASME will offer live and online
courses to prepare those who are interested in becoming engineering
managers for taking the Engineering Management Certification International
program exam.
The program, developed by ASME's Continuing Education Institute, offers
two levels of certification. The Certified Engineering Management Fundamentals
exam is for engineers, scientists and other technical professionals
who plan to become engineering managers. The Certified Management Engineering
Professional exam is for advanced engineering managers who want to enhance
their professional careers.
The exams will be offered early next year. Exam takers will be questioned
on eight areas: market research, technology updates and environmental
scanning, developing products, services and processes, planning and
adjusting business strategies, engineering operations and change, financial
resources and procurement, marketing and sales, leading individuals
and engineering project teams, and professional responsibility.
Seven prep courses that the Continuing Education Institute will offer
next month will cover all eight test areas. All courses will be offered
live, as an instructor-led online course, or as a self-study online
course. All but two courses will last two days. Those registering for
all seven courses will be charged a discounted fee.
"Market Research and Sales" is a three-day course that will
be taught by Dllona Shortle, MBA, a professor specializing in marketing
management, advertising management and sales management.
The subjects that this course will cover include market analysis, best
practices and lessons learned, business research, forecasting tools
and techniques, risk analysis, and pricing strategies.
The charge for the live course will be $1,000 for ASME members; $1,200
for nonmembers.
The fee for the instructor-led online course will be $600. The fee for
the online self-study course will be $450.
Three days of intensive review will also be available to people preparing
for the CEMF or the CEMP exams. The EMCI Test Prep Immersion will offer
a review of eight domains and 49 sub-domain knowledge areas in preparation
for the CEMF and CEMP exams. The application fee is $75. The exam fees
for first time test takers will be $345 for the CEMF and $245 for re-examination.
It will be $525 for the CEMP and $395 for re-examination.
"Planning and Adjusting Business Strategies" is a two-day
course taught by Stephen Smith, Ph.D. Attendees will learn about strategic
destinations and planning, domestically and internationally. The class
will also cover system design and life cycle engineering, partnering
and outsourcing strategies, financial risk management strategies, and
models for new technologies.
"Developing Products, Services and Processes," will be another
two-day course. The topics, to be taught by David Tennant, will include
interdependence of engineering disciplines, manufacturability: pilot
production and feedback process, product feasibility, planning, development
tools, design for manufacturing, and assembly/disassembly procedures.
The seminar will also cover how computer and software systems can determine
product feasibility.
