The ASME Innovative Technologies Institute LLC is scheduled to release the Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Assets Protection (RAMCAP) methodology next month.

The documentation will provide common terminology and the basis for reporting the results of critical infrastructure sector risk studies to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The methodology used to create that document and the nine specific areas that will be affected by it will be discussed in a special session during ASME's 2004 Congress, which will take place Nov. 13–19 in Anaheim, Calif.

The session, "ASME Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Asset Protection" will be presented in two parts that are scheduled to run consecutively.

Part I will take place Monday, Nov. 15 from 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. This session will provide a general overview of the methodology, followed by a question and answer period. Panelists for this session will be key DHS officials and project team members of the ASME Innovative Technologies Institute LLC.

The sector categories are: chemical plants, highways — including bridges and tunnels, liquefied natural gas storage facilities, nuclear power plants, petroleum refineries, railroads, spent nuclear fuel facilities, and subway systems.

ASME performed the project tasks by working with a consortium of public, private, and professional society stakeholder organizations.

The second part of "ASME Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Asset Protection" will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Nov. 15.

DHS has identified a need for the development of critical infrastructure sector-specific guidance to supplement the broadly applicable RAMCAP methodology.

A panel of sector coordinators who participated in creating the RAMCAP methodology will provide an update on the activities in this effort as related to their sector.
