LDI program to reflect Continuity and Change

The Leadership Development Initiative, LDI, is being modified to reflect the reorganization of ASME brought on by the Continuity and Change Initiative.

The LDI program is a training opportunity for highly motivated younger members who want to learn more about ASME by serving a 12-month volunteer internship with one of the five Society operating units (councils) or with the Board of Governors.

"The LDI program provides a wonderful means for someone to observe, participate in and, most importantly, learn about ASME and its inner workings from the highest level of Society leadership," said Warren Leonard, who is the staff support for the LDI program.

Although the ASME council structure will be sunset, the LDI program is expected to make the transition away from the councils to the units that will replace them.

Victoria Rockwell, who is the senior vice president of the Council on Public Affairs, has embraced the shift of the LDI program from councils to the new units. "It makes ultimate sense," she said. "I support the transition plan for the LDI program and look forward to it working well for FY 2006."

Shlomo Carmi, who is the senior vice president of the Council on Education, concurred. "I fully support the LDI intern program transition and look forward to there being an ASME Centers LDI Intern," he said.
