Educating ASME's membership about the Continuity and Change initiative that was launched in June has led to several changes in the traditional program for ASME's 2003 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and RD&D Expo in Washington, D.C., in November.

The new initiative involves months of studying ASME's operation in two areas: marketing and organizational structure.

Sunday, Nov. 16 — the day before the official opening of the Congress — will be devoted to the Board of Governors, which will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

During the meeting, BOG members are expected to adopt the preliminary plans for change that will be issued as a result of months of studying new organization models for ASME.
To accommodate this shift and avoid conflicts, several other meetings will be rescheduled.

The BOG expects the preliminary plans to be discussed by each of the Society's five Councils. Therefore, all Council meetings have been moved to begin after a General Assembly Session that will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m.

The purpose of the assembly will be to present the preliminary organizational plan to all Congress attendees and to solicit input before the BOG votes on final decisions in March.
