Rhodeses lead by giving to Foundation

The title of one of his speeches, "From Visionary Goals to Action Program," describes the latest step taken by former ASME President Allen Rhodes, and his wife Carol, in making an important bequest to the ASME Foundation in their wills.

Their gift makes them the newest members of the ASME Foundation's Archimedes Club at the Silver Level. Their gift provides support for Foundation scholarship, educational and award programs; greatly enhances the ASME Foundation Grant Program, which addresses the most pressing needs of the profession at any given time; and establishes the Rhodes Petroleum Industry Leadership Award, under the auspices of the ASME Petroleum Division.

Allen and Carol Rhodes become Archimedes Club members.

Among his professional activities, Rhodes has been instrumental in developing standards, including those related to safety and pollution prevention in offshore oil and gas operations. In 1990, he gave the Henry Robinson Towne Lecture, "The Engineering and Management Impact of the Global Company," and, in 2000, was a member of the Committee on Global Technologies.

Rhodes has served as chair of the Petroleum Division, ASME's 89th president, and chair of the ASME Foundation. His long association with ASME began in college, where he was chair of the ASME student section at Villanova University.

Over the years, Rhodes has received many honors, including ASME's Charles Russ Richards Memorial Award, the Robert Henry Thurston Award and Honorary Membership in ASME, the society's highest grade of membership.

Rhodes has more than 40 years of experience with technology-oriented companies in the oilfield equipment and service sector, 15 of them as the chief executive officer at Anglo Energy Ltd., Gripper Inc. and Arnco Technology Trust.

The Rhodeses said they decided to make their gift part of their wills because it was the method that made the most sense for them. But, several other methods of supporting the ASME Foundation exist, such as the gift of a charitable remainder or lead trust, a gift of life insurance or a charitable gift annuity.

For members considering a gift, the Foundation offers assistance in finding the best options for their particular circumstances.
