Nomination deadlines approaching for ASME honors and awards

Once again, the deadlines are approaching for members to submit nominations for some of ASME's most prestigious awards. To find out about the procedure for submitting a nomination, members can request a copy of Honors Manual MS-71, or they can look it up on the Web at www.asme.org/honors/ms71/index.html#nominate.

None of those listed below carry any particular restrictions, such as membership in ASME.

Nominations for the awards listed below should be submitted to the Special Awards Committee for that award. To transmit a nomination to the proper committee, for further information, or to get a copy of that manual, contact Leila Persaud at the ASME Honors Department at (212) 591-7735 or persaudl@asme.org.

The Fluids Engineering Award is given for outstanding contributions to the field of fluids engineering and comes with an honorarium of $1,000, a bronze medal and a certificate. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 30.

The Heat Transfer Memorial Award, for an outstanding contribution to the field of heat transfer, brings with it an honorarium of $500, a plaque and a certificate. Nominations for the award are due by Oct. 1.

The Daniel C. Drucker Medal is awarded for outstanding contributions to applied mechanics and mechanical engineering. It carries an honorarium of $1,000, a bronze medal and a certificate, along with an expense supplement. Nominations must be in by Nov. 1.

The Warner T. Koiter Medal recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of solid mechanics with special emphasis on the effective blending of theoretical and applied elements of the discipline. It includes an honorarium of $2,000, a bronze medal, a certificate and an expense supplement. Nominations for this one are due by Nov. 1.

The Ralph Coats Roe Medal is awarded for significant contributions to understanding the engineer's worth to society. This medal carries an honorarium of $10,000, a gold medal, a certificate and an expense supplement. Again, nominations are due by Nov. 1.

The J. Hall Taylor Medal, recognizing eminent achievement in ASME Codes and Standards for piping and pressure vessels, brings with it $1,000, a bronze medal and a certificate. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 1.

Finally, the Timoshenko Medal is awarded for distinguished contributions to applied mechanics. It comes with $1,000, a bronze medal and a certificate. Nominations must be in by Nov.1.

In fact, the nomination due dates for ASME honors are scattered throughout the calendar. For a complete list, check the handbook by visiting www.asme.org/honors/ms71/list.html on the Web or e-mail Leila Persaud at persaudl@asme.org.
