To the Editor: On Monday, Nov. 12, during the ASME International
Mechanical Engineering Congress, an event will take place that you won't
want to miss the Honors Assembly, an impressive and dramatic
audiovisual experience.

This year, the following awards and medals will be presented: Honorary
Membership to professor Avram Bar-Cohen, professor Richard E. DeVor,
and Bobby L. Green; the ASME Medal to Dean Kamen; the Melvin R. Green
Codes & Standards Medal to Guido Karcher; the Spirit of St. Louis
Medal to professor Earl H. Dowell; the Frank Kreith Energy Award to
professor D. Yogi Goswami; the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Medal
of ASME/SME to professor Takeo Nakagawa; the George Westinghouse Gold
Medal to professor Roman Weber; and the Dixy Lee Ray Award to professor
Richard Wilson.
The assembly will be followed by a reception, during which you will
have the opportunity to socialize with the award recipients and other
attendees. This part of the evening provides members with the opportunity
to talk to those colleagues old friends and new you have
missed during the hectic first days of the meeting. The Honors Assembly
is free and all attendees are invited to attend. The Honors Reception
is a cash bar event. For those of you wishing to join the honorees at
the Honors Dinner, tickets can be purchased in the registration area
of the hotel.
On behalf of ASME, I hope you will join us for this special evening.
William W. Durgin, Chair
ASME Committee on Honors
