The ASME Auxiliary will hold its fall meeting on Nov. 13, 2007, at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle, in conjunction with ASME's International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. The Auxiliary meeting will be followed at 12:30 p.m. by a luncheon at McCormick's Fish House featuring Lorraine C. McConaghy from the Museum of History and Industry, who will be guest speaker. All Auxiliary members and their guests are welcome to attend, as is anyone interested in becoming a member of the Auxiliary.

The ASME Congress will be held from November 11–15, also at the Sheraton Hotel. One highlight of the meeting of special interest to Auxiliary members will be the keynote speech by Bernard Amadei, founder of Engineers Without Borders-USA. Professor Amadei will be speaking on Sunday, Nov. 11 — from 5:30 to 7 p.m. — about the founding of this nonprofit organization and the vital role played by engineers and engineering students in the developing world.

In celebration of the 85th anniversary of the ASME Auxiliary in 2008, the Auxiliary voted recently to raise funds to be applied to a scholarship recipient from Engineers Without Borders in recognition of the important work they undertake throughout the world. Amadei is an inspiring leader who speaks with humility about the experiences that led him to establish Engineers Without Borders, about the significant contributions made by engineers and engineering students through this organization, and about the passion and dedication required by us all to meet the expanding needs of the developing world. I am certain that everyone in attendance will be moved greatly by him and his compelling message.

Also of special interest to Auxiliary members will be the annual Honors Assembly on Nov. 12, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The ceremony will be followed at 7:00 p.m. by a reception and by the Honors Dinner at 7:45 p.m. The Honors Assembly is open to everyone and is always a moving event, honoring those who have contributed significantly to all areas of engineering.

The folks at ASME have planned some guest tours featuring the beautiful city of Seattle in conjunction with the meeting. On Sunday, Nov. 11, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., guests are invited to enjoy the "Seattle City Tour," including a stop at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project, some of Seattle's wonderful neighborhoods, and the famous Pike Place Market. The cost will be $35 per person.

The "Lifestyles and Lake Cruise Tour" will depart the hotel on Monday, Nov. 12, at 12:30 p.m. for a tour of Seattle's inner-city shoreline. This tour will feature views from Lake Union and Lake Washington of the University of Washington's stadium, the famous floating bridge, and the mansions of Bill and Melinda Gates, musicians Kenny G. and Steve Miller, and the Nordstrom family, among others. The tour returns to the hotel at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $55 per person.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the bus will leave the hotel at 9:00 a.m. and travel 25 miles east of the city for the "Eastside Highlights Tour." This tour will feature Snoqualmie Falls, where the Snoqualmie River tumbles 270 feet through a rock gorge into a 65-foot pool. The tour will continue to Boehm's Candy Kitchen, which is known for delicious Swiss chocolates, and a tour of the Swiss chalet-style home of Julius Boehm, founder of the candy company. The tour will conclude at the Arboretum Japanese Gardens, which include 3.5 acres of gardens designed by the renowned Juki Lida. The bus will return to the hotel at 1:00 p.m. This tour will cost $40 per person.

The Auxiliary extends a warm invitation to members, guests and anyone else interested in the good work of the Auxiliary to join us in Seattle and participate in some or all of these exciting and informative events. See you in Seattle!
