Late last month, the ASME Board of Governors voted to extend the employment
agreement of Executive Director Virgil R. Carter through July 2, 2008.
This is the date Carter has announced as his retirement from association
management.

Vest is a mechanical engineering professor at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and is the school's president emeritus. He is also a Fellow

On Sept. 26, ASME's Center for Public Awareness and Center for Leadership
and Diversity co-sponsored a Congressional briefing convened by the
Society of Women Engineers on the need for more women and diversity
in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce.
New leadership opportunity
for early career engineers
The ECLIPSE (Early Career Leadership Intern Program to Serve Engineering)
initiative is a new leadership development opportunity for ASME members
who have served in the workforce for three to 10 years since receiving
their engineering degrees.
The 'Generous Nation' campaign
and the ASME Foundation
Last month, the Advertising Council, well known for its pro bono campaigns
for nonprofit causes, launched a "Generous Nation" campaign
to stimulate giving to favorite charities.
