Symposium will offer practical advice
to gas turbine owners and users
Engineers who are responsible for operating,
testing and maintaining industrial gas turbines and aero-engine systems
can have all of their technical questions answered at one place this
December: the ASME Gas Turbine Users Symposium.
The symposium, slated for Dec. 6-8 in Las Vegas, will also address the
concerns of companies that supply products and services to gas turbine
end users. The ASME International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) is sponsor
of the three-day program, which will be co-located with the 2005 Power-Gen
International Conference.

According to John Platt, senior adviser for machinery at BP Exploration
and Production Technology Group, the Gas Turbine Users Symposium will
provide owners, managers and hands-on operators with practical information
and solutions to day-to-day challenges. Platt serves as chair of the
symposium, which will offer ideas on optimizing system life cycles and
achieving cost efficiencies, among other topics related to operations
and maintenance.
Gas turbine users at all levels will be able to benefit from attending
the Gas Turbine Users Symposium. The three-day program of panel sessions
and tutorials offers best practices and practical problem solving for
owners and managers as well as hands-on operators. The speakers in the
tutorials and panels are leading experts and authorities in gas turbine
technology.
This year's technical program has been organized into four tracks, each
designed to help attendees answer the question, "What do you plan
to do with that gas turbine?" Topics to be highlighted during these
sessions will include basic rotor dynamics, advanced thermal barrier
coating, advanced gas turbine reliability, combustion turbines for oil
and gas applications, power augmentation, combustion turbine compressor
washing, root cause failure analysis and problem mitigation, and environmental
regulations.
In addition to the symposium, ASME will hold three pre-conference workshops:
"Combined Cycle Power Plants," on Dec. 4 and 5; "Heat
Rate Awareness for Combined Cycles," on Dec. 4 and 5, and "Combustion
Humming in Gas Turbine-Based Power Plants," on Dec. 5.
The pre-conference workshops and symposium will be held at the Sands
Expo Center, the site of Power-Gen. According to the International Gas
Turbine Institute, paid registration at the Gas Turbine Users Symposium
includes free admission to the Power-Gen equipment exhibit.
