The best design entries from each region will compete against each other at this year's Student Design Contest during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress, next month in Anaheim, Calif. The competition will be held on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.

• Homeland Security Track: Vulnerabilities of U.S. power grid likely to be assessed by Congress panel
The challenges involved in building a more robust power grid will be discussed during a panel discussion on Monday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

• Former astronaut to lead special diversity event at 2004 Congress
Former astronaut Bonnie J. Dunbar will lead a panel of speakers at this year's Special Event Diversity Forum, which is being sponsored by ASME's Board on Diversity and Outreach.

Conference to examine ethics in energy industries
