Melvin R. Corley, P.E., chief advisor to the Louisiana Gamma Chapter and a professor of mechanical engineering at Louisiana Tech University, was chosen as the 2003 Tau Beta Pi National Outstanding Advisor. He will be honored this month at the engineering honor society's 98th annual convention in Lubbock, Texas. Corley, an ASME member since 1974, was cited by students and peers for restoring the chapter's campus and national reputation through his strong motivational and leadership skills, dedication and commitment. Corley joins Erin E. McIntyre, a 2003 mechanical engineering graduate from Rutgers University, who will also be honored at the meeting. McIntyre was selected as a 2003 Tau Beta Pi Laureate, a distinction the honor society gives to gifted engineering students who have excelled in areas beyond their majors. McIntyre was nominated by the New Jersey Beta Chapter at Rutgers for her athletic abilities, particularly her All-American swimming endeavors. She has been an ASME member since 2001.

Jan Davis, P.E., was named director of the Safety and Mission Assurance Organization at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Davis, an ASME Fellow, previously served as director of Marshall's Flight Projects directorate. Davis is an astronaut who flew three times. She succeeds Amanda Goodson, who recently left the space agency. In her new position, Davis will direct the safety, reliability and quality activities of all Marshall Center programs, including establishing and assuring compliance with NASA safety and mission assurance strategies, policies and standards, and implementing methods for identifying safety risks. Davis, who grew up and went to school in Huntsville, began her career at the Marshall Center in 1979 as an aerospace engineer. She has been a member of ASME since 1979.

Michael F. Molnar, P.E., of Franklin, Ind., was selected to serve as an ASME federal government fellow. He began his one-year term last month at the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in Washington. Molnar will contribute his knowledge of manufacturing engineering while serving on the staff of the director of OSTP, John Marburger, who serves as science advisor to President George W. Bush. Molnar will focus on issues related to U.S. manufacturing competitiveness and industry policy, as well as government-to-industry technology transfer effectiveness. Prior to his appointment, Molnar worked as director of manufacturing technology for Cummins Inc., where he was responsible for manufacturing research and development for the world's largest producer of commercial diesel engines over 50 horsepower. Molnar, a member of ASME since 1985, currently serves on the executive committee of ASME's Manufacturing Engineering Technical Division and is an advisor to the Society's Council on Member Affairs. He also served a term as vice president of the ASME Central Region.

Jon M. Kriegel, senior development engineer at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y., was elected president of the Rochester Engineering Society (RES). He will serve as president until May 31, 2004. Kriegel, an ASME member, is a past president of the ASME Rochester Section and has been active on the RES board of directors for more than 12 years. Kriegel is currently secretary of ASME's Region III (the Mid-Atlantic Region). He has been a member since 1974.
