The newly appointed acting associate administrator for the Office of Aerospace Technology at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., will participate in the Celebration of Flight plenary session next month during ASME International's Mechanical Engineering Congress in Washington.

J. Victor Lebacqz had been associate director for aerospace programs at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., before being named acting associate administrator. As associate administrator, Lebacqz assisted in developing integrated, long-term, innovative agency-level technology for aeronautics and space. He also assisted in developing new commercial partnerships that exploit technology breakthroughs.

During the plenary session, Lebacqz will join Hank Queen, vice president of Engineering and Product Integrity at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Mal O'Neill, vice president and chief technical officer at Lockheed Martin, to discuss the advancements and upcoming challenges of flight as seen from the commercial, defense and aerospace perspectives.

The session will feature the presentation of an honorary Spirit of St. Louis Medal to Amanda Wright-Lane, the great-grandniece of Orville and Wilbur Wright.

The session will take place November 16 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

It will be open to everyone who attends the Congress and the RD&D Exposition.
