The ASME Foundation will host a reception to honor members of the Archimedes Club at the ASME Congress in Washington, D.C., next month. The club was established, in tandem with the foundation's recently launched Planned Giving Initiative, to recognize donors of planned gifts that benefit the mechanical engineering profession.

"This occasion offers a unique opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of some wonderful friends of engineering. We welcome the chance to thank people like Jim Adam and Nancy Fitzroy in person, among an audience of their peers, for their exceptional leadership and commitment," John Mihm, chair of the Planned Giving Advisory Committee, said.

"When you consider that the first 21 members alone have provided a legacy of, conservatively, $1.5 million for scholarships, educational programs, grants and awards, you can't help but feel optimistic about this program's potential for the future of the profession," he said.

Membership in the Archimedes Club will be extended to each person making a planned gift to the ASME Foundation. There is still a little time to be an honored guest at the first gathering of the club, especially for those who already have a gift in place, if you let the foundation know. Designing a planned gift can take time, as Mihm himself knows.

A recently retired executive at ConocoPhillips, he is currently working on his estate plans, which will include a gift to the foundation. Everyone making a gift by November 2004 will have the added distinction of being a Founding Member of the club.
