Live demonstrations of ASME's new Conference Toolbox will take place at this year's International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in New Orleans.

Conference Toolbox is a Web-based conference planning tool that provides authors and conference organizers the opportunity to plan and manage their conference through a central source, including program development and facilitation of the publication process.

The live demonstrations at the Congress are geared to organizers who will be active in either an upcoming conference or Congress 2003. Six sessions are planned, focusing on specific topics of interest to organizers, such as Creating a Session, Assigning Session Organizers and the Review Process.

A two-hour session is planned for each day of the Congress. Sessions are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The Friday session will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

The topics to be covered in each session will be announced at the Congress and published in the on-site program.

In the interim, if conference organizers wish to try their hands at the tool, they may go to the Toolbox test site, www.conferencetoolbox.org/Test Conference. There, the first task is to experience the abstract submittal process as an author by following the directions on the site.

Organizers who are interested in other levels of conference management, such as acting as a reviewer, session organizer or track leader, should contct Richard Ulvila at ulvilar@asme.org or (212) 591-7863 to be promoted to that role. He will also assist in answering any general questions about the Toolbox.
