Members can nominate candidates as officers
for ASME International
The ASME members who serve as the Society's
officers represent ASME around the world, establish a vision for the
Society's future, and manage both the organization's strategic
direction and its members' activities.
This year, the Nominating Committee (NC), which meets twice annually,
is seeking nominees to fill 17 officer positions. Thirteen of those
new leaders will be vice presidents.
The nominees will be chosen by the Nominating Committee from a group
of candidates during the Summer Annual Meeting in June. The nominees
will be recommended to the membership through the proxy ballot distributed
in the fall.
ASME members have the option of organizing a special nominating committee
to propose additional nominees. However, at least one percent of the
corporate members must notify the executive director of this intention.
If such a committee is formed, the names proposed will also appear on
the proxy.
The names of any nominees selected by a special nominating committee
must be submitted by Aug. 5 to the executive director's office.
The NC would like at least two candidates for each leadership position.
The committee should be notified of intentions to run for office by
March 15, 2003. Final nomination packages must be submitted by April
15. The NC will meet at SAM in June to evaluate the candidates and recommend
nominees.
The NC reviews the candidates' written material, interviews the
candidates, and listens to the candidates' supporters.
The 2002 nomination package is available at www.asme.org/
nomcomm and can be used to develop the 2003 package, which will be available
in January 2003. For more information, contact Gilda DiTullio at (212)
