ASME accepting Hoover Medal nominations

Nominations are currently being accepted by ASME for the Hoover Medal. Established in 1929, it commemorates the civic and humanitarian achievements of engineers. The Hoover Medal is conferred upon an engineer whose professional achievements and personal endeavors have advanced the well-being of humankind. Among past winners are ASME members inventor Dean Kamen and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

The Hoover Medal is administered by a board that represents five engineering organizations: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

To be considered for the 2003 award, all nominations must be postmarked by Feb. 15. To obtain the nomination cover sheet and more information, visit www.asme.org/member/awards/hoover_medal, or call Maxine Rosen at (212) 591-7158.
