New recruits fund education
The chance to contribute to the education of future mechanical engineers so far has inspired 73 people to become members of ASME International. In the Society's current member recruitment campaign, half of the first year's dues of newly recruited ASME members will go to a scholarship fund. As of Sept. 14, that fund was near the $4,000 mark. E-mentoring lets students and members both learn
ASME's e-mentoring initiative is gearing up for its second year of pairing working ASME members with student members who are interested in the advice that members working in industry or academia can impart. Read more.


Return your completed proxy
A proxy for the election of officers was included with last month's issue of ASME NEWS. The selection of officers that appeared on the proxy was made by ASME's 2001 Nominating Committee. Positions to be voted on are: president (2002-2003); three at-large members of the Board of Governors (2002-2005) and 12 vice presidents (2002-2005). The deadline to return proxies is Nov. 5.


Career Fair at Congress
The Career Fair at the upcoming ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition is scheduled for Nov. 13-14. Also during this year's Congress, students are invited to attend ASME's first Career Skills Day, which is scheduled for Nov. 12.
