This year, Nina Webb is attempting to have each of the regional Junior SSC representatives speak at the RSLS/MTS regional meetings on behalf of the Auxiliary Scholarships, as these students are funded to go to the meetings.

She is hoping to have a scholarship speaker at each of the regional meetings, which begin on Sept. 7 and end on Oct. 20. We also invite all ASME members to join our Auxiliary, and try to spread the word further about the scholarships available through the Auxiliary as well as the ASME Foundation.

The only word thus far on the Auxiliary Luncheon at this year's International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition is that it will be in the convention hotel after the Auxiliary Board meeting on Nov. 13. The speaker has yet to be determined, as does the price for the luncheon. The Auxiliary tries to stay within a $25 price range, however. Everyone is invited to purchase tickets and attend the luncheon. It is by no means limited to Auxiliary members.

You may wonder how money is distributed for the scholarships given each year by the Auxiliary. Much of the money comes from endowed funds. These endowed funds allowed one Cartwright and three Farny undergraduate scholarships to be given this year, along with three Rothermel, one Parsons and four Rice-Cullimore.

However, there are additional funds available through the General Education Fund ($4,700), General Fund ($3,500) and the Student Loan Fund ($1,900). This money is used to fund additional scholarships. This total amount is what allowed the Auxiliary to give out 17 ($2,000) scholarships this past June.

The following people received a Rothermel (master's degree) Scholarship for the 2001-2002 academic year: Revis Tron Napier, a senior at Old Dominion University in Region VI; Rebecca Perkins, a graduate student at Southern Illinois University in Region VII; Shane Ridgeway a graduate student at Iowa State University in Region VII; Maria Sensi, a senior at Carnegie Mellon University in Region V; Kendall Stevens, a senior at the University of Cincinnati in Region V and Omideh Taghavi, a senior at the University of Texas in Region X.
