Submit Abstracts for 2008 High Temperature
Reactor Conference
Technical paper abstracts are now being
accepted for the 4th International Topical Meeting on High Temperature
Reactor Technology (HTR 2008), which will be held next year in Washington,
D.C. The biennial conference is a venue for nuclear experts to discuss
issues related to high temperature gas-cooled reactors, which are widely
considered within the industry to be one of the more promising reactor
concepts.

The meeting, to be held from Sept. 28Oct. 1, 2008, is a dedicated
forum for experts on high temperature reactor (HTR) technology. The
reactors are said to offer a number of advantages, including improved
safety and economics, shorter construction times, distributed generation,
and high temperature availability for hydrogen production and other
process heat applications.
The International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor Technology,
last held a year ago in South Africa, is intended to encourage international
collaboration among public and private organizations in order to avoid
duplication of effort and to use available resources in the most cost-effective
manner. R&D projects are currently taking place in the United States
and other countries, such as Japan, China, South Africa, France, South
Korea, and the Russian Federation.
Many other countries are participating in HTR research through the High
Temperature Reactor Technology Network, an alliance of 21 European organizations,
and the Generation IV International Forum, which includes 10 member
countries as well as the International Project on Innovative Nuclear
Reactors and the Fuel Cycles (INPRO) program of the International Atomic
Energy Agency.
Organizers of HTR 2008 are now accepting abstracts of technical papers
to be presented at the conference. Authors are invited to submit abstracts
on such topics as industrial and research high temperature reactor projects;
fuel and fuel cycles; nuclear engineering analysis; engineering, design
and applications; materials and components; safety and licensing; and
economics.
Other areas that proposed technical papers can examine include experimental
HTR programs and benchmarking; industrial process heat applications;
application to production of hydrogen; application to synthetic fuels
production; and waste management.
Applicants should note that their papers will be compiled in a conference
proceeding and distributed at the conference. Presentations will be
limited to 25 minutes, which will include 10 minutes for questions from
the audience and discussion.
