The new standard identifies requirements for establishing the qualifications
of pipeline personnel who carry out various critical jobs and is intended
to minimize pipeline failures caused by human error.

On Sept. 28, the National Academies' "Convocation on Rising Above
the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing Regions, States, and Cities"
in Washington, D.C., brought together more than 600 government, industry,
research, and education leaders from all 50 states to discuss ways in
which to advance U.S. competitiveness.
Revised Boiler Code companion
guide now available
Nearly 80 pressure vessel and piping experts collaborated on the newly
revised "Companion Guide to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Code, Second Edition."
New Archimedes Club members
to be welcomed at the Congress
Formed in 2003, the Archimedes Club honors individuals who have made
a planned gift to the ASME Foundation. To date, more than 50 gifts have

ECTC helps early career engineers
gain experience, learn about ASME resources
Last month, the Early Career Technical Conference (ECTC) gave more than
20 young engineers from the southern United States a forum in which
to present finished or in-progress technical papers and, in turn, augment
their technical résumés.
NAE holds workshop on offshoring
Last month, the National Academy of Engineering held a workshop, "The
Offshoring of Engineering: Facts, Myths, Unknowns, and Implications,"
which was part of a larger NAE study on offshoring and its implications
on the engineering profession currently underway.

ASME has entered into business partnerships with two international companies,
Alliance Safety Management Services Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and Abar Solutions
Petroleum Consultancy Ltd. in Kuwait.
