Web seminars to examine lean manufacturing, maintenance

ASME's Continuing Education Institute will offer two online seminars — or "webinars" — during November and December. The Web courses will explore the topics of lean manufacturing and computerized maintenance management systems.

The webinar "Lean Manufacturing" will be given Wednesday, Nov. 9, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The online course, to be led by instructor David Kazel, will explain the concept of lean manufacturing, an innovative approach that raises productivity by eliminating waste from processes, causing a dramatic impact on quality, cycle time, employee morale and customer satisfaction.

During the seminar, which will give participants an overview of lean manufacturing, participants will learn the concepts of value, waste and pull production; value stream mapping and identifying problems concerning waste; shortening production flow by eliminating waste; and continuous improvement.

A second online seminar, "How to Turn Maintenance Into a Profit Center," will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Kris Bagadia will be the instructor for this course.

The class will focus on how to turn maintenance into a profit center with the help of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Participants will learn how to survive downsizing and enhance the image of a maintenance department. In addition, the webinar will provide a brief overview of CMMS and show how to bridge the gap between executive and maintenance management.

Registration for each webinar per site is $249 for ASME members, $299 for nonmembers. Early registration is suggested because some sites may need to have Webex software installed before they can participate in the seminars.
