Individual and corporate nominations now being accepted for ASME's Von Flue Medal

The deadline for the ASME Frank von Flue Medal, which recognizes significant contributions by an individual, company, foundation or other organization to the support and promotion of lifelong learning for mechanical engineers, is fast approaching. The deadline for award nominations is Jan. 31, 2006.

A wide range of accomplishments may be considered appropriate for recognition. Examples include contributions to the professional development of engineers through training and educational programs; the development of tools and techniques to help engineers maintain their professional competence; best practices in assessment methods; professional development advocacy through leadership in company or government policy; distribution or promotion of materials for lifelong learning; or innovations in the delivery of continuing education programs for engineers.

The award is named in honor of the late Frank von Flue, a leading advocate for the professional development of engineers. From his career in industry to his service on the ASME Board of Governors, von Flue was a pioneer in promoting professional development within ASME.

The award consists of an honorarium of $1,000 and a bronze medal. It will be presented during an award ceremony at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition from Nov. 5–10, 2006, in Chicago.
