Five new state coordinators are selected

ASME's State Government Coordinator program enables Society members to contribute their professional experience and expertise to the public policy process on a part-time basis.

The Society recently chose five new 2002-03 state government coordinators. Andrew Blelloch of New Jersey, Ted Aanstoos of Texas, Franklin Chen of California, Frank Kreith of Colorado and Richard Heinecke of Mississippi will each serve a one-year term up to five years.

The coordinators were selected after a Society-wide solicitation from a highly talented pool of applicants. The biographies for each new coordinator can be found at www.asme.org/gric/Coordinators/Members.html.

Coordinators monitor the important technical aspects of state legislation, provide information, and assist state legislators on technical and engineering issues. Coordinators also identify opportunities for Society members to influence the law-making process at the state government level.

The state government coordinators will be working to implement the recently endorsed Council on Education model bill in their states. (See related story "Stem bill can go to legislators" in this issue.)
