Former ASME President Drucker dies

Daniel C. Drucker, Ph.D., who served as ASME president during 1973-74, died in September 2001 in Florida, where he lived.

For his years of distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering, the ASME Applied Mechanics Division instituted the Daniel C. Drucker Medal, to commemorate his service to the profession. In 1998, Drucker became the first recipient.

An Honorary Member of ASME, Drucker was known for his many publications on solid mechanics, primarily on plasticity. His fundamental work in that field serves as the basis for plastic flow theories and is referred to as "Drucker's Postulate."

Most recently, he was graduate research professor emeritus of aerospace engineering, mechanics and engineering science at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
