John Koehr was hired in September as the first director of ASME's recently formed Codes and Standards Technology Institute.

As director, Koehr will be responsible for the Institute's continuing formation, including development of the Institute's operating procedures, organization of technical review groups, and project initiation and management.

He will report to Mark Sheehan, managing director of Development, a new department in Codes and Standards.

Koehr has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. His professional career includes 11 years of experience in engineering project management. The first nine of those were spent in the nuclear power industry, where he specialized in developing spent fuel storage systems in the United States, Canada, Korea, and the Ukraine.

Prior to that, Koehr served in the U.S. Navy for five years, most recently as submarine
officer/lieutenant aboard the USS Cincinnati. During his tour, Koehr was promoted to watch officer and was responsible for the operation of the entire submarine.
