GD&T, plant piping courses planned for Phoenix

A wide range of topics — from geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to operation and maintenance of plant piping systems — will be explored in a group of ASME short courses to be offered later this month.

The courses, which are presented by ASME's Continuing Education Institute, will be given from Nov. 12-16 at the Doubletree Hotel in Phoenix.

"ASME Y14.5M: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Level 1," from Nov. 12-14, will cover key topics such as maximum material condition, true position and datums. Registration is $1,070 for ASME members, $1,170 for nonmembers.

If you take the ASME Y14.5M class, you may want to follow it up with the short course "Tolerance Stack-Up" on Nov. 15-16. This course will introduce techniques for calculating the effect of coordinate and geometric tolerance accumulations on individual parts and assemblies. Registration is $695 for members, $795 for nonmembers.

"Design, Inspection and Repair of ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 Pressure Vessels," from Nov. 12-14, will concentrate on topics that are relevant to proper operation and maintenance of vessels after they have been placed in service. This seminar emphasizes design, inspection, examination and testing, as well as proper assessment and inspection results for efficient and effective repairs. Registration is $950 for members, $1,050 for nonmembers.

From Nov. 12-15, "Operation, Maintenance and Repair of Plant Piping Systems" will acquaint operations, engineering, maintenance and inspection personnel with the technical bases for the safe and cost-effective operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of plant piping systems. Registration is $1,195 for members, $1,295 for nonmembers.

"Pump and Valve Selection for Optimum System Performance," also from Nov. 12-15, will provide an understanding of pumps and valves and how they interact for optimum system performance. The course will also give participants ideas on how to make cost-effective choices and avoid poor system operation. Registration is $1,095 for members, $1,195 for nonmembers.

Attendees can receive continuing education units (CEUs) after completing ASME Continuing Education Institute short courses.
