ECEI helps employers assess value of engineering
credentials
How do American employers determine that the engineers
they hire have degrees that meet the standards of the Accreditation Board
for Engineering and Technology Inc. (ABET)?
Often, it's by using the services of Engineering Credentials Evaluation
International (ECEI). ECEI is a service of ABET, operating out of its home
office in Baltimore since 1997.
ECEI also helps U.S. employers determine if the foreign academic credentials
presented are genuine, and how to get the educational credentials of engineers
who were educated outside the United States accepted by the state boards
for registration and professional licensure.
These tasks are accomplished by ECEI by assessing the educational quality
of engineering, surveying and computer science degrees from colleges and
universities outside the United States. It is, in fact, the only evaluation
service in America that evaluates foreign academic credentials against prescribed
ABET engineering, surveying and computer science program criteria. A critical
component of this service is the verification and authentication of academic
credentials from outside the United States.
The evaluation credentials unit serves a diverse group of clients, from employers
to state boards, government agencies to academic institutions. So far, ECEI
has evaluated degrees from more than 100 countries around the globe, and
its operations are expanding.
The ECEI staff has extensive experience in the assessment of foreign educational
systems and is proficient in several Slavic and Romance languages, as well
as in Japanese and Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese.
The staff also actively researches and writes publications on foreign educational
systems and therefore maintains an extensive database on educational systems
around the world.
