Although it is difficult these days to think about
the upcoming conference in New York, the work of ASME and the ASME Auxiliary
must continue. We all try to keep our lives going as before, although I fear
that the money available next year for scholarships may be less than we had
this year.
The format for the luncheon will also be slightly different than it has been
in the past. To accommodate the schedules of the guest speakers, the luncheon
will start with the speakers at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 13.
Gary Benenson will make a presentation about the educational activities of
ASME entitled "Children Learning Technology from Everyday Stuff."
Robert Simoneau, who is the senior vice president of ASME's Council on Education,
will also give a brief presentation about the educational activities of ASME.
Both speakers have commitments in the afternoon, so the food part of the
luncheon will be served after the presentations. All guests are welcome to
buy a ticket and attend the luncheon. Membership in the Auxiliary or ASME
is not required.
The one Parsons Scholarship presented for the 2001-2002 academic year was
given to David Schmidt, a student at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
The Parsons Scholarship is awarded to a doctoral student. The Parsons Scholarship
committee also welcomes Donna Simoneau as a new member of its committee.
