Clarence De Silva, Ph.D., P.E., recently received the Henry M.
Paynter Outstanding Investigator Award from ASME's Dynamic Systems and
Control Division. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated
sustained outstanding research contributions as a mechanical engineering
professional to fields relating to dynamic systems and control. Silva,
an ASME Fellow, is a mechanical engineering professor at the University
of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is also the past chair of and a
current advisor to the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division. He
has held a number of other Society positions within the division as
well as the British Columbia Section. He has been an ASME member since
1979.
Joe Greenslade has accepted the position of director of technology
for the trade association the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI).
Greenslade is well known within the fastener industry for having written
on technical subjects in industry publications and from his long representation
of the fastener industry on a number of national and international fastener
standards organizations. A gradate of Texas A&M University, Greenslade
was manager of corporate engineering and development for Camcar-Textron,
plant manager of the Camcar's Drilltite division, and general manager
of Rockford Headed Products before he founded his own company, Greenslade
and Co., where he worked for 29 years. He currently serves on many ASME
standards teams, including ASME B.1 and B.18 Committees, and a number
of subcommittees and working groups. He has been a member of ASME since
1997.
