New ECLIPSE interns start terms at Summer Annual Meeting

Five early career engineers will begin their ECLIPSE (Early Career Leadership Intern Program to Serve Engineering) internships next month at ASME's Summer Annual Meeting in Toronto.

The goal of ECLIPSE, which launched at the 2006 ASME Summer Annual Meeting, is to engage, identify and begin to develop potential leaders for ASME by placing early career engineers in highly visible and productive roles within the ASME organization. The program is overseen by ASME's Center for Leadership and Diversity.

Sara de Paula, an ECLIPSE intern for the Knowledge and Community Sector

The ECLIPSE initiative offers young engineers yearlong leadership internships at the highest levels of ASME. In addition to honing their leadership skills, the experience also provides the interns with a chance to network for that next opportunity, in both their professional and ASME careers.

In addition to attending the Summer Annual Meeting, ECLIPSE interns are invited to attend the 2007 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition and the 2008 Leadership Training Conference.

Scott Walthour will serve on the Board of Governors. A department manager at Arium AE, Scott earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in architectural engineering at Penn State University. He is a past chair of the Early Career Forum Committee and is currently the programming chair for ASME's Washington, D.C., Section.

The Knowledge and Community Sector will be served by Sara de Paula, currently a materials engineer at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co. Earning her bachelor's degree at Florida International University, Sara was an officer of FIU's ASME student section for two years and is currently a member of ASME's North Alabama Section.

Also serving the Knowledge and Community Sector is Toby Turnage, a mechanical engineer at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Technical Service Center. Having attended the Colorado School of Mines and the Technological and Superior Studies Institute of Monterrey, Mexico, Toby earned his bachelor's degree at the Colorado School of Mines and is pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Colorado.

Chetan Paydenkar, the ECLIPSE intern for the Strategic Management Sector

Timo Márquez will serve his internship with the Centers Sector. Co-founder and partner of MGR Proyectos Sostenibles, in Venezuela, Timo is a sustainability and environmental design consultant for architecture projects. Having earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Zulia and his master's at Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology, Timo is the current vice-chair for the Technology and Society Division and past chair of the division's Sustainable Engineering Committee.

Chetan Paydenkar is the ECLIPSE intern for the Strategic Management Sector. Currently working as a MEMS package development engineer for Analog Devices Inc. in Cambridge, Mass. Chetan earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a master's in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
