The 2007 ASME Summer Annual Meeting, which
will be held from June 914, 2007, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel
in Toronto will provide a number of activities for Auxiliary members
and their guests.
All Auxiliary members are invited to attend the Auxiliary Annual Meeting
on Tuesday, June 12, at 8:30 a.m. at the hotel. That afternoon, the
ASME Auxiliary will host a Guest High Tea starting at 2 p.m. in the
Fairmont Royal York's Epic Restaurant. The menu will include berry cocktail,
buttered crumpets with honey, finger sandwiches, pastries, scones, and,
of course, tea. The luncheon program "Who Wears Underpinnings?"
will be an intriguing display and history of undergarments certain to
make us all very grateful for such modern luxuries as Victoria's Secret
and spandex. The cost is $28 (U.S.) for each person; reservations should
be made online at www.asmeconferences.org/sam07
or by phone at (800) 843-2763 by May 28. Please join in the fun, meet
new friends, renew old acquaintances and indulge in sinfully delectable
sweets. White gloves are not required.
On Sunday, June 10, guests of the Auxiliary will have the opportunity
to go on a shopping tour of Toronto. A tour bus will leave the Fairmont
Hotel at 9 a.m. Destinations will include Queen Street West, featuring
trendy restaurants and cutting-edge shopping; the Bloor-Yorkville shopping
district with boutiques, cobblestone sidewalks, courtyards and beautiful
Victorian homes; and the Eaton Centre, a multilevel glass galleria with
285 shops, restaurants and services. The bus will return to the Fairmont
at 2 p.m. The trip will cost $48.
Also on June 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., all registrants, spouses and guests
are invited to attend the opening cocktail reception a great
way to become reacquainted with old friends and begin the meeting.
The next morning at 10 o'clock, a bus will depart the hotel for the
Toronto Harbor, where guests will board the 62-foot "Showboat"
for a cruise through the harbor and island waterways. The Showboat has
an all-season upper deck in addition to a main deck decorated with upholstered
chairs, carpeting and large picture windows that provide participants
with a comfortable venue from which to gain a unique perspective of
Toronto's picturesque harbor. The bus will return to the Fairmont at
1 p.m. Tickets are $31.
On Tuesday, June 12, please join other guests at the Summer Annual Meeting
for an exciting insiders' view of Toronto's diverse ethnic communities.
At 9 a.m., a bus will depart the hotel to explore three of the most
popular ethnic neighborhoods: Toronto's popular Chinatown along Spadina
Street, Greek Town featuring authentic baklava and handmade ceramics
along Danforth Avenue, and Little Italy along College Street West. The
tour will return to the Fairmont at 2 p.m. Tickets are $49.
The President's Dinner, also on June 12, begins at 6:30 p.m., with dinner
at 7:30 p.m. Join other members and guests at this elegant affair at
which ASME President Terry Shoup and other officers serving in 200607
will be recognized for their service. Incoming President Sam Zamrik
will deliver his inauguration speech and introduce other ASME officers
who will begin their terms in June 2007. Tickets for the dinner are
$88.
The Auxiliary will host the Guest Hospitality Room at the Summer Annual
Meeting, as it does each year for those attending the meeting and their
guests. This year, the Guest Hospitality Room will be open Monday, June
11, through Wednesday, June 13, from 8 a.m. until noon each day. Light
